The Tree Trunk Trundle

Marbles for gekoglass...

Firstly, sorry for no blog last week. I had writers block and had nothing to say! But this week I would like to talk to you about marbles.

Marbles have been made for thousands of years from all sorts of materials such as clay, stone, wood and glass. Throughout the ages they have fallen in and out of popularity. There are records of marble games being played in Ancient Egypt and Roman times.

Marbles being played in the street...

Modern glass marbles became popular in the late 1800's with new techniques and machinery to make marbles out of glass. A marble craze swept across the globe. Today marbles have become nostalgic for people who grew up in the 1950's and 1960's.

When we opened our glass boutique, we knew we had to stock marbles. We get all our marble supplies from House of Marbles in Devon. They have a fantastic visitors centre if you find yourself near by it is well worth a visit.

To assist with showing off the range of marbles that we stock, we decided to build a marble run. It was named 'The Tree Trunk Trundle' and hopefully the video below will show it in action.

We have a large range of marbles for sale from 5p each up to £2 each. So why not pop in to see what we have available.
Handmade marbles £2 each.

We also have made some smaller marble runs which can be enjoyed at home. These have been lovingly handcrafted by us in our workshop. They range in price from £85.00 to £125.00. We have only made four so far, but we will be making more in the future.

Some of the marble runs available to purchase...
You now have a limited time to grab yourselves some marbles. We think we will be leaving Hanover Road in April so pop in to grab your marbles while you can. We will be relocating but this may take a few months to organise. In the meantime, I will continue to blog each week. We also have a range of our items for sale on #etsy.

So if you miss us while we are away, you can still buy some of our handcrafted items. We can do home visits if you are planning a wedding, christening, anniversary or if you would like a quote for a glass splashback. Please just get in touch.

Thank you for reading and we will be back next time.

THIS WEEKS BLOG

An update....

This week we just wanted to update you with how we are getting on. We have been very very busy at gekoglass HQ. Here is a little overview of what we have been up to...

We have taken two splashback orders, the shop has been busy and we have sold items on etsy. So it's all lovely and positive, thank you to all these customers.

Yesterday we attended the first ever Wedding Fair for the Roscoe Rooms in Scarborough. It was a great first event for them, so a big congratulations. We met a lot of brides to be, talked weddings and we showed off some of our fantastic items....

Our stall

Close up

The next wedding event we are attending is this Wednesday at The Mayfield, Seamer, Scarborough, 5pm to 8pm. It would be great to see you all there.

As we told you all last week, we are looking to relocate. We have viewed three or four properties and will keep you updated with any new developments.

We are constantly trialing new products. This week we have made some new bunting sets. 'pink for a girl' and 'blue for a boy'.

£12.50 each set
As a family we have bought a startup felting kit. So far we have all made flowers, hearts and toadstools. It seems to be a really lovely craft to do. We all have spots on our fingers where the needles have caught us out. Currently in production is a monster, a fairy and two penguins. As our skills develop we will share some of these items with you. They are not quite ready for the public to see!

As always thank you for reading our blog.
We will see you next time.

THE FUTURE FOR GEKOGLASS

The future is bright....The future is gekoglass.....

Business is very challenging, all the time. There is a need to constantly have new products in development. Your business has to grow and be allowed to flourish according to your creativity. To captivate the customer is probably the biggest challenge retailers face. We hope we have achieved this with our stunning marble run 'The Tree Trunk Trundle'. People can interact with this in our shop unit, it is a stunning talking point and something worth remembering.

We have also made smaller marble runs that can be purchased and treasured forever.

Gekoglass has resided on Hanover Road in Scarborough for the last two years. There have been a lot of ups and downs personally and business wise. We have learnt a lot about business in these two years and are really proud of our little glass boutique. We will be sorry to leave.

Our lease is now up and we are looking to relocate. Currently we have no premises to go to, however, this does not mean we are going out of business!! We are simply looking for somewhere new to inhabit. If you think you know where we could go, then please get in touch....

While we have no shop unit we are still contactable on all social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, google+, Instagram, email and very old fashioned but you could also telephone us! Orders can be made for all the products we currently sell.

We will be doing various wedding fairs in the next two months:
Saturday 12th March - Roscoe Rooms, Scarborough
Wednesday 16th March - The Mayfield, Seamer, Scarborough
Sunday 3rd April - The Barn, Burniston, Scarborough
Sunday 10th April - The Downe Arms, Wykeham, Scarborough

Just Married Bunting £27.50. We can tailor make to match your wedding colours.

We will also be attending a Spring Gala in Thornton Le Dale, 29th May.

As soon as we have details of our new premises we will of course let everyone know. We just want to stress, again, that we are not going out of business. We are here to stay!! So watch this space.

Gekoglass, we surpass on glass...

Thank you for reading, see you next time
